YPG: July 19 proves that peoples’ will can confront tyranny

The General Command of the YPG issued a statement today to the public on the anniversary of the July 19 Revolution. The statement read:

“On this historic occasion, the General Command of the YPG proudly joins the people of North and East Syria, the families of our martyrs, and our friends around the world in commemorating the 13th anniversary of the Rojava Revolution.

July 19 is not just a date; it is a symbol of resistance and freedom, and marks the beginning of a new era in the history of Kurdistan, Syria, and the broader Middle East.

We pay deep respect and tribute to our martyrs who sacrificed their lives in defense of this revolution. The resistance of our people, along with the YPG and YPJ forces, against ISIS and occupying powers has become an immortal example of heroism, not only protecting our region, but significantly contributing to the security of all humanity.

Since 2012, the Rojava Revolution has taken on an international character thanks to tens of thousands of revolutionaries from across Kurdistan, the peoples of Syria, and freedom fighters from around the world.

This revolution has proven that the will of the people can stand in the face of tyranny, and under the leadership of women and youth, it has become a beacon of hope for all the components of the region.

Today, Rojava is globally recognized as a model of democratic governance based on equality, coexistence, and peace. Through this experience, we have shown that solidarity among the peoples of the Middle East is not just a theoretical possibility, but a real and achievable necessity.

On this anniversary, we recognize that our region, and Syria in particular, continues to go through a phase of instability and conflict. We reaffirm our position that any form of governance or political project that does not respect the diversity and pluralism of this land will not be able to put an end to the civil war that has lasted for 14 years.

The Syrian crisis, fueled by tyranny and the rejection of pluralism, will only grow more complex if new forces continue the same exclusionary and denialist policies.

On the 13th anniversary of our revolution, we renew our pledge to continue the struggle for freedom and justice. Our forces will remain steadfast in defending our people and the values of this revolution, facing all threats and dangers with unwavering determination and without retreat.”
