Bakr Al-Jaradah, co-chair of the Initiative for the Freedom of Leader Abdullah Ocalan in the Euphrates Canton, affirmed that the July 19 Revolution “has become a symbol of freedom and resistance,” after laying the foundations for the democratic autonomous administration model that embodies partnership among the components of North and East Syria and presents a decentralized vision for the future of Syria.

In a statement to ANHA agency on the 13th anniversary of the July 19 Revolution, Al-Jaradah emphasized that the revolution represents a grassroots popular project that materialized on the ground through the establishment of the democratic autonomous administration system and the broad participation of all social components in the region.

He explained that the formation of the People’s Protection Units (YPG) and the Women’s Protection Units (YPJ) was one of the fruits of the revolution, saying: “Today, values of humanity are being defended. Women, youth, and all religions have engaged in this liberation project.”

Regarding the challenges faced by the autonomous administration, he pointed to the most prominent attack that targeted the city of Kobani on September 15, 2014, when ISIS mercenaries launched a wide-scale assault with Turkish support. He added, “The YPG and YPJ responded with a historic resistance that resonated worldwide, turning the martyr Arin Mirkan into a symbol of struggle. Later, the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) were established, along with the formation of civil councils and women's institutions in the liberated areas.”

Al-Jaradah concluded by asserting that the July 19 Revolution has now become “a symbol of freedom and humanity,” and that the democratic autonomous administration model today represents a realistic vision for a decentralized Syria based on justice and partnership among all its components.
