Women's organizations condemn violations against civilians, women in Tel Aran, Tel Hasel

Reactions continue across the regions of Rojava to the violations and practices committed by factions affiliated with the Syrin Interim Government against Kurdish women and civilians in the towns of Tel Aran and Tel Hasel in the Aleppo countryside. On Thursday, the Women's Council of the Democratic Union Party (PYD) in Derik, the Sara Organization to Combat Violence Against Women in Kobani, and Kongra Star in Tirbê Spîyê issued separate statements condemning the reported violations and practices.

The Women's Council's statement in Derik was read by council member Salma Ibrahim in front of the party's office in the city. Kongra Star's statement in Tirbê Spîyê was delivered by its administrator, Shama Mahmoud, beside the organization's local centre, while the Sara Organization's statement was read by Yara Mohamed, a member of the organization's Training Committee, outside its headquarters in the Jadidneighbourhood of Kobani.

The statements condemned attacks targeting Kurdish civilians, including women and the elderly, as well as the detention of young men in Tel Aran and Tel Hasel.

They stressed that Syria must uphold the principles of justice, equality, and recognition of the rights of all its communities.

The statements also called for safeguarding women's rights, ensuring their meaningful participation in state institutions, and recognizing the legitimate rights of the Kurdish people.

The organizations further urged international and humanitarian organizations, as well as women's rights groups, to fulfil their responsibilities by working to protect civilians and end violations.

They also called for an urgent, transparent, and independent investigation into the incidents and for those responsible to be held accountable.

The organizations also called on international organizations and women's groups to take a clear stance on the incidents and work to ensure the protection of women's rights. They said the attacks run counter to Syrians' aspirations for security and stability.

The statements stressed that any use of force outside the framework of the law, or any form of violence or abuse against women or civilians, constitutes a violation of human rights.

They further emphasized that protecting women and safeguarding their dignity is a responsibility shared by all institutions, and that upholding the rule of law and respecting rights and freedoms are fundamental to building trust and ensuring stability.

The organizations also called for rejecting violence, respecting human rights, and strengthening a state based on the rule of law and effective institutions.
