Women's, cultural circles condemn murder of artist Diala Al-Wadi

The Hîlala Zêrîn Movement for Women's Cultural in Raqqa Canton issued a public statement, read by administrator Samar Jumaa in front of the Cultural Center in Raqqa, with the participation of several young women and students.

The movement stated that this incident reflects the extent of the security chaos and the suffering civilians endure in Syria, emphasizing that crimes are no longer limited to the streets but have also reached inside homes.

The statement noted that Diala belonged to a prominent artistic family, being the daughter of the late musician Salhi Al-Wadi, founder of the Higher Institute of Music in Damascus.

It added that her murder is part of a series of heinous crimes targeting childhood and the arts, such as the killings of Tala Shoufi, Ghina Hilal, and children in Syria's coastal region. The movement described these crimes as “a direct assault” on life, creativity, and the future.

The Movement pledged to continue “playing the melody of life and singing to the jasmine so it may bloom in every corner of our land, for the hand that plays music does not kill.”

Syrian artist Diala Salhi Al-Wadi was found murdered in her home in the Al-Malki neighborhood of Damascus on August 3.
