Women of Garkê Legê: Attacks on women unforgivable crime

Women from the city of Garkê Legê strongly condemned the attacks targeting Kurdish civilians, particularly women, in the towns of Tel Aran and Tel Hasel, stressing that such acts constitute a violation of human rights. They called for those responsible to be held accountable and for measures to prevent such abuses from happening again.

The attacks against Kurdish civilians, especially women, in Tel Aran and Tel Hasel—which local sources said were carried out by members affiliated with the Syrian interim government—have sparked widespread condemnation across the Jazira Canton. There have been growing calls to hold those responsible accountable, prevent further violations, protect civilians, and safeguard women's dignity.

In this context, ANHA Agency interviewed several women from Garkê Legê, who voiced their rejection of the attacks against Kurdish civilians and women in Tel Aran and Tel Hasel.

Citizen Khalasa Khalaf said: "An attack on Kurdish women is an attack on the will of society as a whole. No party will be able to break women's determination through such practices. Kurdish women have proven over the years their ability to endure and resist, and they will continue to defend their rights and dignity."

The women also called for strengthening unity in the face of these violations and urged the relevant authorities and the Syrian interim government to launch a serious investigation and hold all individuals and officials involved in the attacks accountable.

For her part, citizen Aisha Mustafa said that what happened in Tel Aran and Tel Hasel constitutes an unacceptable violation against civilians, particularly women, stressing that protecting civilians is a responsibility that must not be neglected.

She added: "Holding those responsible for these attacks accountable is an essential step toward preventing their recurrence. We call on the Syrian interim government to impose legal penalties on everyone involved and to uphold justice and respect for human rights."

Meanwhile, citizen Nihaya Mousa said that Kurdish women have always been at the forefront of defending freedom and dignity, and that any attack against them is an attack against all women.

She called for all those involved in these violations to be held accountable and urged efforts to protect women and ensure that such abuses are never repeated, emphasizing that safeguarding women's dignity and respecting their rights is a responsibility shared by all.
