The neighborhoods of Sheikh Maqsood and Al-Ashrafieh in Aleppo witnessed a violent assault yesterday evening carried out by the Syrian Transitional Government forces against civilians, provoking widespread outrage, especially among women and women's organizations.

In this context, Media Suleiman, an administrator at the Hilal Zerin Women's Culture Center in Raqqa, expressed deep concern and anger over the plight of the defenseless civilians, stating: “We have all witnessed the recent military mobilizations by the Transitional Government, the erection of earth barriers, and the imposition of a suffocating siege on the residents of Sheikh Maqsood and Al-Ashrafieh a provocative measure aimed at destabilizing the security and stability of these districts.”

She added, “There were peace agreements stipulating a ceasefire, but these have been violated without justification, as if fourteen years of war, destruction, and displacement were not enough.”

Suleiman further stressed that, “Women in North and East Syria have paid a heavy price in the pursuit of security and stability,” underscoring that “any aggression against civilians constitutes a clear violation of humanitarian values, and the international community must bear its responsibility.”

Similarly, Noor Al-Huda, a training committee member of the Zenobia Women's Assembly Council, highlighted that the stance of women in Raqqa is “a humanitarian one before being political,” adding: “Our positions must be firm regarding the events in Sheikh Maqsood and Al-Ashrafieh. We cannot remain silent. Sheikh Maqsood and Al-Ashrafieh are inseparable from North and East Syria, we are one body and one people, and we will defend our regions against any aggression.”

In the same vein, Hafiza Al-Ahmad, an administrator at the Zenobia Women's Assembly Council, affirmed that what is happening in Aleppo “constitutes a direct threat to all of North and East Syria,” stating: “We condemn and denounce all attacks targeting civilians in Sheikh Maqsood and Al-Ashrafieh. Any threat against these areas is a threat to the entire region of North and East Syria. We will stand united to defend ourselves and our land to the last drop of blood.”
