Women from Qamishlo in solidarity with Suwayda woman: "This is the time for freedom"

The recent attacks launched by armed groups affiliated with the transitional government in Syria since July 13th targeted residential neighborhoods in Suwayda and its surroundings, resulting in massacres, abductions, and widespread looting. A large number of civilians, especially women and children, were killed during these attacks.

According to official sources, at least 80 women were abducted, while local estimates suggest the actual number could be much higher. In this context, women from Qamishlo spoke to ANHA agency, expressing their firm rejection of what is happening to civilians in Suwayda.

"These Crimes Are a Major Humanitarian Shock"

Citizen Hamdia Furman expressed her anger at the continued violations against women, saying: "As women, we cannot accept this at all. What is happening is a crime against humanity. We demand an immediate end to the violence, and women should not remain silent in the face of those who take away their rights." She emphasized the necessity for women’s voices to be free, enabling them to defend themselves and their thoughts.

"The Hand Extended Against Women, We Will Break It"

For her part, Kulnaz Mahmoud stated that what is happening in Suwayda is a continuation of the subjugation and silencing of women, but she affirmed that this time is the time for women's freedom: "We will not accept the violation of women's dignity under any pretext. We stand with the women of Suwayda and with all women in the world, and we will always remain in the field."

Kulnaz added that what is happening requires urgent international action, calling for the accountability of all those who have committed crimes against civilians without leniency or politicization.

"There is No Difference Between Us and the Women of Suwayda"

Najah Ismail expressed her deep pain and sympathy for the suffering of women in Suwayda, saying: "What is happening there is exactly like what we went through during the years of war. The suffering is the same, and our blood has become intertwined. When the rights of a woman are violated anywhere in the world, it is a violation of the dignity of all women, because pain knows no boundaries, and justice is indivisible."

At the conclusion of their remarks, the women emphasized that their positions are not merely born out of solidarity but from a deep sense of responsibility. They called on all women in North and East Syria to stand united with the women of Suwayda in the face of murder and terror, and also issued an urgent call to the international community and women's organizations to exert pressure to stop the violations and open safe humanitarian corridors.
