A group of women from As-Suwayda province attended the Newroz celebration in Qamishlo, wearing their traditional clothing. Among them was activist Riham Farhat, who is celebrating Newroz with the Kurdish people for the first time.

Riham Farhat shared her experience and feelings about this occasion.

Riham Farhat highlighted her presence at the square to participate in the Newroz celebration and share in the locals' joy, especially since this is the first Newroz after the fall of the Ba'ath regime. Riham revealed that they had known about Newroz before but had never participated in the celebrations due to the regime's pressures, including arrests and interrogations. She said, "We now have the opportunity to participate in this holiday with the Kurdish people, and we are very happy about it."

Riham emphasized that the Syrian people, with all their components, beliefs, religions, and ethnicities, deserve happiness and to live in peace and security. She continued, saying, "At the beginning of our Syrian revolution, we said that the Syrian people are one, and they will remain united despite all the pressures and the parties seeking to prevent this unity."

Riham Farhat pointed to the pressures and crimes of the Ba'ath regime, mentioning that it stirred discord among the components of the Syrian people. However, she noted that they see no differences among themselves, saying, "The Syrian people share happiness and sorrow; they share stories of joy, pain, and victory."

Riham Farhat stressed the importance of women playing their role in Syria at all levels without being sidelined. She pointed out that the current constitutional declaration excludes women and stated that they have paid a high price, like other women, during the revolution. She added, "For this reason, women have the right to participate in building the state."

Riham Farhat expressed her hopes for the future, saying, "I hope that we get to know each other better as a people, overcome hatred, eliminate it, and unite."
