Widespread protests against Damascus authority in As-Suwayda 

Today, the city of As-Suwayda witnessed widespread protests against the Damascus authority, as demonstrators gathered in Al-Karama Square, chanting slogans demanding decentralization and dignity for citizens.

The protesters raised pictures of Sheikh Hikmat al-Hijri and banners with slogans such as:"The de facto authority... playing with time and terminology... a transparent game.""No to al-Jolani, no to the Brotherhood, we do not accept tyranny." "Al-Jolani killed the free people under orders from the fugitive." "From the frying pan into the fire, down with al-Jolani and his usurping government.""Ahmed al-Shar’ is establishing an alternative system to Assad’s regime to serve foreign interests at the expense of the people.""The Ottoman occupation returns with al-Jolani’s efforts.""The international community is responsible for every drop of blood spilled on Syrian soil.""Russia, Iran, and Turkey are directly responsible for the violence in Syria."

Various societal groups in As-Suwayda expressed their rejection of Damascus’ exclusionary policies, considering its decisions oppressive and a return to the era of the Baath regime. They demanded better living conditions for citizens and a decentralized state that preserves the rights of all communities and grants everyone a say in the decision-making process.
