The U.S. Department of State issued a security alert on Saturday for American citizens in the Middle East and beyond amid rising tensions and the ongoing confrontation between the United States and Iran in the region.

Through its Bureau of Consular Affairs, the department urged U.S. citizens currently in the Middle East to remain vigilant and exercise increased caution, warning of possible travel disruptions, including flight cancellations and temporary airspace closures.

In its statement, the State Department said several airlines in the region have delayed the resumption of their regular flight schedules, while others have canceled certain routes. It advised Americans to consider departure options or be prepared to leave should the situation escalate further.

The department also urged U.S. citizens outside the Middle East to reassess travel plans to or through the region and to closely monitor updates from airports and airlines before and during travel.

The State Department warned that U.S. diplomatic missions and interests worldwide could face security threats, noting that Iran and affiliated groups may target locations or entities associated with the United States and American citizens, including U.S. companies and institutions outside the region.

Meanwhile, U.S. embassies in several Middle Eastern countries issued updated security alerts for American citizens, including in Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Kuwait, Jordan, Iraq, Bahrain, Egypt, Lebanon, Oman, Israel, the West Bank, and the Gaza Strip.

The embassies said the regional security situation remains complex, with the potential for sudden developments or unexpected escalation, and urged American citizens to follow official security guidance and take appropriate precautions.
