Washington evacuates American minor from ISIS camps in NE Syria

Washington has returned an American minor from ISIS camps in NE Syria and called on countries to repatriate their citizens, stressing that 30,000 foreign nationals, most of them children, remain in these camps, and that action is needed to mitigate the long-term security risks to these camps.

The US State Department announced yesterday that it had repatriated a minor American citizen from a camp in NE Syria, in a move aimed at "reuniting him with his family."

The Department did not disclose further information about the evacuation or the name of the camp from which he was transferred, one of the camps holding families of ISIS members in NE Syria.

In an official statement, the US State Department emphasized that approximately 30,000 people from more than 70 countries still reside in these camps, the majority of whom are children under the age of 12.

Washington reiterated that the only lasting solution to the crisis in these camps lies in the countries of origin taking the initiative to repatriate their citizens, noting the need for urgent international action to address the humanitarian situation and mitigate its long-term security risks.
