SDC Presidential Body: transitional phase in Syria is at dangerous turning point

The Presidential Body of the Syrian Democratic Council (SDC) held its regular meeting in the city of Hasaka to discuss current challenges. The meeting was attended by the council's co-chairs, Laila Karaman and Mahmoud al-Muslat, via videoconference, along with the co-chair of the Department of Foreign Relations in the Autonomous Administration, Ilham Ahmed, and members of the council.

The meeting discussed developments in the Syrian political scene. In her speech, Laila Karaman emphasized that the transitional phase has become a entrenchment of chaos rather than a path to a solution. She added, "Exclusion does not unite a people, and violence does not build a state. What is required today is the launch of a comprehensive national project based on partnership, not hegemony."

Regarding the recent events in Sweida, Laila Karaman rejected the involvement of tribes in conflicts that do not reflect their national history. She called for an independent investigation into the violations, especially those affecting women and children, saying, "The dignity of the Syrian human being is not negotiable, and justice must be the foundation for building a new Syria."

In a related context, Laila Karaman highlighted the importance of the recent meeting held in Paris, attended by US envoy Thomas Barrack, the French Foreign Minister, and Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani. She said, "The message was clear: the authorities must return to the political track seriously, not continue to maneuver and obstruct."

For her part, Ilham Ahmed, co-chair of the Autonomous Administration's Foreign Relations Department, emphasized that decentralization is no longer an option, but rather a necessity to ensure the country's unity and the fair distribution of power and wealth. She emphasized that any political settlement without genuine inclusion of all Syrian components based on partnership and dignity, and without continued marginalization and exclusion, will only lead to further escalation and collapse

The meeting also addressed the importance of the recent meeting held in Paris, which brought together international and Syrian officials. The meeting concluded by stating that international messages confirm the continued desire for a political solution, and called on the transitional government in Damascus to engage seriously with this process.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the Presidential Body called for the revival of the March 10 agreement between the Syrian Democratic Forces and the transitional government as a national framework for a solution that can be built upon to advance the political solution process. It emphasized the need to launch a comprehensive Syrian dialogue that includes all political, social, ethnic, and religious parties and components, to formulate a roadmap toward a democratic, pluralistic, and decentralized state based on the values of justice, equality, and citizenship.

The Presidential Body:emphasized that the transitional phase is at a critical juncture, and that the absence of genuine representation and the failure of current models threaten the prospects for a settlement.

It emphasized that the solution cannot be achieved through incitement, the continuation of the killing machine, and the cycle of violence, but rather through a comprehensive national dialogue that restores trust among Syrians and establishes a democratic state that upholds rights and protects pluralism.

The meeting concluded with a reaffirmation of the commitment to working for a just civil Syria that preserves the rights of all and translates the aspirations of the Syrian people into a tangible reality.
