Villages in Sweida targeted with heavy machine guns

The town of Rassas, located west of Sweida city, was targeted late Wednesday night and into Thursday. The National Guard Command stated in an official statement published on its media outlets that the source of the attack was forces of the Syrian transitional government.

No sufficient information has been released about the aftermath of the attack, which was documented by activists’ cameras in rural Sweida.

The statement read: “The extremist gangs affiliated with the terrorist regime ruling in Damascus carried out a new ceasefire violation by firing random bursts of machine guns toward the town of Rassas, in an attempt to destabilize the area and spread fear among civilians.”

The statement added: “This assault is part of a series of systematic violations committed by these gangs. Our forces responded by targeting the sources of fire with appropriate means.”

The National Guard Command affirmed that its forces “are in full readiness, closely monitoring field developments, and will deal with any threat through deterrent measures that safeguard the security of the mountain and the dignity of its people, upholding the legitimate right to defend land and honor.”
