The US State Department announced today the launching of the first pilot zones in southern Lebanon, within the framework of the tripartite coordination mechanism and under the oversight of the Military Coordination Committee for Lebanon.

In a statement to the media, the Department said that operations started in the villages of Frun, Srifa and Zawtar al-Gharbiya, pointing out that this is a consequence of the discussions held last week between Lebanon and Israel in Rome, Italy.

Washington stressed that it will continue its work with both sides to implement the agreed-upon framework until its completion successfully.
