UNICEF: Recent escalation in Aleppo displaces 1,229 people

UNICEF stated that the recent escalation in Aleppo and its surroundings forced children and their families to flee their homes in search of safety in northeastern Syria.

According to UNICEF’s data as of 11 January 2026, “approximately 1,229 people, including 298 children, reached host communities and collective shelters in Raqqa, Tabqa, Al-Hasakah, and Qamishlo, after many of them endured harsh experiences, requiring immediate care and support.”

The organization added that it is responding in cooperation with its partners by deploying mobile teams to provide primary healthcare, distributing high-energy biscuits and ready-to-use therapeutic food, as well as carrying out psychosocial support activities for children and mental health services to strengthen families’ capacity for community adaptation.

UNICEF reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that children and their families in Syria have access to essential services, protection, and support, with respect for their dignity and necessary care.

On 6 January, the Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafiyah neighborhoods in Aleppo were subjected to violent attacks by mercenaries of the Syrian Interim Government backed by Turkey, while the Aleppo Internal Security Forces resisted these attacks in a six-day struggle, achieving heroic defense efforts.

The brutal and intense shelling by the Syrian Interim Government’s mercenaries led to a large-scale displacement of civilians, in addition to causing deaths and injuries.
