Women of Jazira: Martyr Deniz symbolizes struggle, resistance in epic of Sheikh Maqsoud, Ashrafiyeh

Today, Kongra Star organized a protest at Haitham Kajo Stadium in the city of Qamishlo, at the level of Jazira Canton, under the slogan: “Against genocide and occupation: Woman, Life, Freedom,” in support of the historic resistance shown by the people of Sheikh Maqsoud, Ashrafiyeh, and Bani Zaid, and in loyalty to the blood of the martyred self-sacrificing leader Deniz Çiya and her fellow martyrs.

The protest was attended by women from civil society organizations, Kongra Star, the Free Women’s Stand, the Women’s Council of the Democratic Union Party, the Internal Security Forces – Women, the Women’s Council of North and East Syria, the Syrian Women’s Council, as well as independent women activists and residents of Jazira Canton.

The protest began with a minute of silence in honor of the martyrs’ souls, followed by a speech delivered by Kongra Star spokesperson Rihan Loqo, who said: “Since the beginning of the revolution, we said that we will either live with dignity or die with dignity, and we will not surrender. From our mothers’ wombs, a heroic resistor, fighter, and struggler is born.

She added that Martyr Deniz is the symbol of the resistance of Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafiyeh, and that the spirit of Woman, Life, Freedom will continue in confronting the mercenaries of the Turkish occupation and the interim government.

She affirmed that massacres and violations have not broken the steadfastness of the Kurdish people, that attempts to tarnish the image of the SDF will fail, and stressed that the victory of the Syrian Democratic Forces is a victory of collective will, and that the march of the martyrs will continue until the last breath.

Halat Mohammed, a leader in the Internal Security Forces – Women, also delivered a speech highlighting the role of women in the historic resistance that lasted six days in Sheikh Maqsoud, Ashrafiyeh, and Bani Zaid, noting that it embodied an advanced model of sacrifice, resilience, and defense of human dignity.

She condemned the mutilation of Martyr Deniz’s body by mercenaries of the interim government in Damascus, affirming that such practices violate human values and international conventions and reflect an attempt to break the will of society and spread terror and humiliation.

The protest concluded with chants saluting the resistance of the neighborhoods of Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafiyeh, as well as the chanting of the oath three times, pledging to continue the path and struggle, not to surrender, to stand behind the military forces, and to continue the martyrs’ march until freedom and dignity are achieved for the peoples of North and East Syria.
