UN: 16.5 million people in need of aid in Syria

The United Nations announced that 16.5 million Syrians need assistance, and that more than 6 million Syrians remain internally displaced, while funding for the 2025 plan has reached only 14% of the $3.2 billion required.

The United Nations Resident Coordinator and Humanitarian Coordinator in Syria, Dr. Adam Abdelmoula, announced that approximately 16.5 million people are in need of humanitarian assistance, during a press conference today in Damascus.

He added that more than 6 million Syrians remain internally displaced, while more than 6 million others live as refugees around the world. He noted that approximately 24% of the country's housing stock has been damaged or destroyed in recent years.

Abdelmoula confirmed that funding allocated to the 2025 Humanitarian Response Plan has so far reached only 14% of the total $3.2 billion requested.
