The sixth meeting of the Committee on National Consensus, Brotherhood, and Democracy, established within the Turkish Parliament to address the Kurdish issue, was held with the participation of representatives from the Union of Turkish Bar Associations.

In his opening remarks, Kurtulmuş described the committee’s work as a “historic opportunity”, stressing that it has continued its efforts successfully so far. He underlined the importance of establishing a legal framework for the next stage, with the support of bar associations.

Kurtulmuş pointed out that the committee had previously heard testimonies from the Peace Mothers, Saturday Mothers, and families of war victims, who called for an end to the cycle of violence and the prevention of future tragedies. He added:

“They told us: We have already paid a heavy price, but we do not want our children to pay a new one. Let us end this here.”

He emphasized that the committee has achieved meaningful progress in under nine months—a pace that, he argued, surpasses experiences in other countries that required several years to reach a similar stage. He described this as “an achievement for the Turkish nation” and called on all parties to contribute to and support the ongoing process.
