The meeting, which lasted approximately two and a half hours, was attended by the leaders of all parliamentary party groups.

According to information published by the Mesopotamia News Agency, Kurtulmuş presented proposals previously submitted and approved by the parties to the deputies during the meeting. In this context, party representatives offered new suggestions. The İYİ Party stated that it would not appoint any members to the committee at this stage and would not participate in the committee to be established.

Initiative by the Parliament Speaker

The meeting addressed several issues related to the committee, including its formation and nature. The Peoples’ Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party), the Republican People’s Party (CHP), and the Yeni Yol Party had previously proposed forming the committee in accordance with legal frameworks.

This proposal was discussed again in today’s meeting, and it was decided that, instead of forming the committee through legislation, it would be established directly under the initiative of the Speaker of the Parliament, Numan Kurtulmuş.

Importance of Peace and Democracy

Another topic discussed during the meeting was the naming of the committee. The DEM Party proposed that the committee’s name include the terms "peace" and "democracy" and suggested finding a suitable formulation for this. This proposal received support from opposition parties, which insisted on including the term "democracy" in the name.

According to the information received, representatives of other political parties, including the Justice and Development Party (AKP) and the Parliament Speaker, did not object to this proposal.

Committee to Consist of 44 Members

The meeting also discussed the number of members for the committee to be formed. According to the information, representatives of political parties without parliamentary groups will also participate. Six political parties without parliamentary groups but represented in the parliament are expected to participate, with one representative from each party. It was also reported that the committee would consist of at least 44 members.

First Meeting

The meeting included discussions on the principles and foundations of the committee’s work, with an agreement to define these in the first meeting after the committee’s formation. The meeting also addressed how to resolve various issues the committee might face.

According to the information, a deputy group leader from each party will be appointed, and a coordination committee will be formed. This coordination committee will jointly determine the issues to be included on the agenda.

Regarding this proposal, it was decided to document the resolutions in writing. Kurtulmuş will present the decisions made to the political parties in written form next week. Following this, Kurtulmuş will undertake the necessary preparations to establish the committee.
