Turkish occupation renews shelling of Metina mountain despite ceasefire, disarmament

The Turkish occupying state has renewed its shelling of the Metina mountain range in the Amadiya sub-district of Duhok, Southern Kurdistan, despite the announcement by a group of fighters from the Kurdistan Liberation Movement on July 11 that they had laid down and destroyed their weapons and transitioned to political struggle.

According to Roj News Agency, the American organization CPT reported that the Turkish army carried out artillery shelling last night targeting the Metina mountain range in Amadiya, Duhok Province.

CPT member Kamiran Osman stated today: “6 days after the ceasefire was declared, the Turkish army resumed shelling Mount Metina.”

He added that at 7:20 PM last night, Turkish artillery shelled the Keli Mewin area within the Metina mountain range, located inside the Amadiya sub-district, twice in succession.

He also noted that the Turkish army carried out 11 attacks on the territory of the Federal Region of Southern Kurdistan after the Guerrilla fighters officially destroyed their weapons. He clarified that these attacks targeted the borders of the Amadiya area in Duhok Province.

On Friday, July 11, a group of fighters from the Kurdistan Liberation Movement declared their transition to political struggle after disarming and destroying their weapons in a formal ceremony held in Southern Kurdistan. They emphasized that they “fully recognize the validity, necessity, and significance of this historic step.”
