Turkey builds new military road in Duhok Mountains

Turkish occupation forces destroyed rocks of mountain  in “Rashava Valley,” located within the boundaries of the Deraluk subdistrict in Duhok province, using explosives in order to establish a new military road in Southern Kurdistan.

Roj News Agency stated that the Turkish army used TNT to blow up parts of the mountain rocks in those areas, and that the road being carved through Rashava Valley is approximately 15 kilometers long.

Sources added that the Turkish occupation state continues to destroy nature in the region on a daily basis, despite the ongoing ceasefire and efforts related to the Call for Peace and Democratic Society initiative.

The sources considered that constructing paved and concrete roads deep in the mountains indicates the Turkish forces’ intention to remain for a long period and to establish what is known as a “safe zone” inside the territories of Southern Kurdistan and Iraq — a plan described as dangerous at both the security and sovereignty levels.

Previously, the Turkish occupation state had built two other military roads in the areas of Avashin in Deraluk and Bari Sile in the Amedi district.

By opening the Rashava Valley road, Ankara aims to connect the entire area together, amid the continued absence of any official position so far from regional officials or the Iraqi government.
