Transitional govt. forces arrest two individuals from Qamishlo

The transitional government in Syria arrested two individuals from the city of Qamishlo in the Jazira Canton while they were camping in the desert near Palmyra in central Syria. No information about them has been reported since December 20.

According to information obtained by ANHA agency from their families, the detainees are: Hamid Salman Mahmoud, born in the village of Ali Faru in 1982 and residing in Qamishlo, married with two daughters; and Sheikhmos Faisal Khalil, from the village of Nafkar, aged 35, married with five children.

According to the reports, Hamid and Sheikhmos, both animal enthusiasts and traders, traveled on the night of Wednesday, December 17, to the city of Palmyra for camping in the desert and hunting wild rabbits. They also planned to show Saluki dogs to two friends involved in animal breeding from Saudi Arabia and Jordan, with the intention of selling them.

The families stated that Hamid and Sheikhmos were arrested around 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, December 20, by a man named “Abu Hajar,” a military official in the transitional government in Syria. His forces stopped the group in the area and took them to the Palmyra police station.

The families added that a Jordanian hunter and another Gulf national who were accompanying Hamid and Sheikhmos were later released after being detained, while the fate of Hamid and Sheikhmos remains unknown at the time of this report.
