Teachers' protests renewed in southern Kurdistan

Teachers in Sulaymaniyah, Halabja, Rabrin, and Garmian governorates, and Koya district in southern Kurdistan, continue to protest and continue to boycott school hours for more than four months.

The teachers who renewed their protest today called on the authorities to take care of the affairs of southern Kurdistan, and not to sacrifice further the future and studies of the students, and to respond as soon as possible to the demands of the protesters, which include appointing lecturers and raising job grades that have been suspended for decades, also the accumulated salaries for three months for last year and this month as well are disbursed on time.

This comes at a time when protesting teachers have been boycotting official work for more than four months, and it is reported that the Ministry of Education of the caretaker government of southern Kurdistan, earlier, through an official letter, said that it would only respond to 2 of the protesters’ demands out of a total of 5 demands, this sparked anger and condemnation from the protesting teachers.
