Tal Tamer residents outline their demands for Kurdish negotiating delegation

On June 4, the Kurdish delegation formed following the conference "Unity of Kurdish Position and Stance in Rojava Kurdistan," held on April 26 in Qamishli, revealed the names of the delegation members for dialogue with the Damascus authorities and international and Kurdish parties. The delegation is preparing to head to Damascus to hold talks with the Damascus authorities to discuss a solution to the Kurdish issue in Syria.

In this context, ANHA's agency monitored the opinions of the Kurdish community in the city of Tal Tamr and those displaced from the occupied areas in al-Jazira Canton. Citizens emphasized the need for the first round of negotiations to focus on ending the Turkish occupation of Syrian territories and ensuring a safe environment for the return of those forcibly displaced to their cities of origin, most notably Afrin, Serêkaniyê/ Ras al-Ain, and Gire Spi/Tel Abyad.

Citizen Mahmoud Muhammad, a displaced person from Serêkaniyê, said, "We demand that the Kurdish delegation that will travel to Damascus to negotiate with the transitional government focus its first round on the return of the Kurdish people who were forcibly displaced from their homes in Serêkaniyê, Gire Spi, and Afrin."

He added, "We have high hopes for this delegation to restore the rights of the Kurdish people and to change the name of Syria from 'Syrian Arab Republic' to 'Syrian Republic' to include all its people and sects."

Khadija Asim Ibrahim called for comprehensive constitutional reforms, saying, "We demand that the delegation preparing to negotiate with Damascus address its demands to amend the Constitutional Declaration and its provisions, which are one-sided and deprive the rest of the Syrian people of their rights."

She continued, "We also demand that they negotiate with the transitional government in Damascus to ensure it fulfills its obligations towards the Syrian people, to return those forcibly displaced from their cities in the occupied areas, and to expel the Turkish occupation forces and the settlers they brought in, to ensure a safe environment for the return of the displaced."

She concluded by saying, "The delegation must also not diminish the rights of other peoples who coexist with the Kurdish people, such as Arabs, Assyrians, and Syriacs, and must guarantee their rights alongside the rights of the Kurdish people."

 For his part, Barjas Aziz Ibrahim emphasized the cultural and national dimensions of the Kurdish issue, saying, "The Kurdish delegation preparing to negotiate with the Damascus authorities must bear the hopes of a people who suffered horrendously and whose language and cultural identity were obliterated under the rule of the former Ba'ath regime."

Concluding his speech, he indicated that the delegation's negotiations must focus on the Kurdish people's attainment of their national and cultural rights, official recognition of the Kurdish language, and the return of displaced Kurds to their original areas.
