Syrian Writer: Kurdish Liberation Movement’s initiative strengthens prospects for peace

In a statement issued on October 26, the Kurdish Liberation Movement announced that, based on the decisions of its 12th Congress, it had begun reorganizing its forces within Turkish borders, particularly in areas where potential escalation or provocations might occur. The movement noted that it has taken precautionary measures in contact zones to avoid any clashes.

The statement emphasized that this move comes within the framework of the Call for Peace and the Democratic Society, adding that a group of guerrilla fighters (Kurdish: Gerîla) has reached the Qandil Mountains as part of this process.

Commenting on the development, Syrian writer and political analyst Mohammad Issa described the step as “bold and a true reflection of the movement’s commitment to implementing the peace initiative.”

Issa stressed that the initiative reflects a careful reading of current realities by leader Abdullah Ocalan, who has repeatedly emphasized that violence and wars are features of the past century, and that humanity today is called upon to abandon the logic of war in favor of dialogue, democratic negotiations, and rule of law as alternatives to armed conflict.

He added that “this new initiative will enhance Ocalan’s credibility in advocating for a society based on equality and democracy, and it will strengthen the chances of realizing the Democratic Nation project and the brotherhood of people. This, in turn, places the Turkish authorities in a weaker position regarding both the freedom of Abdullah Ocalan and the right to hope.”

Issa concluded by saying that “this initiative could contribute to weakening Turkey’s hostile tendencies, as it confronts a coordinated peace project grounded in Ocalan’s philosophical vision, which holds that the problems of the peoples in Turkey and the region cannot be solved through violence or narrow nationalist approaches, but through dialogue and shared democratic reasoning.
