The Syrian Women’s National Dialogue Platform expressed deep concern over the dangerous escalation unfolding in As-Suwayda, warning that it threatens civil peace and reopens unhealed wounds in a Syrian body already burdened by war, discrimination, and marginalization.

In a statement reported by NUJINHA (Women's News Agency), the Platform stressed that the events in As-Suwayda are not isolated incidents but rather the result of long-standing political injustice and the neglect of comprehensive solutions capable of ending the conflict and restoring dignity to all Syrians, both women and men.

The Platform strongly rejected “the logic of violence and authoritarianism” and also condemned “dragging local communities into conflicts that are managed without their free will.”

It further denounced “the involvement of certain agencies in fueling the conflict, whether through incitement, bias, or direct interference. A state that is supposed to protect its citizens must not treat them as adversaries, nor use repressive tools to subjugate them.”

The Platform also warned against the rise of sectarian and hateful rhetoric accompanying the escalation, describing it as “fueling division and pushing society toward a new brink of explosion.” It emphasized that a nation cannot be built on incitement, but rather on respect, equality, and recognition of all components of society as essential partners in Syria’s future.

Reiterating its categorical rejection of all forms of violence, regardless of their source, particularly when directed at unarmed civilians, the Platform affirmed: “We believe that the dignity of the Syrian person, both women and men, is the cornerstone of any genuine political solution.”

The statement called for an immediate halt to the escalation and the opening of serious and responsible dialogue channels in which women and civil society play a real and effective role, not just a symbolic presence. It stressed that tensions cannot be resolved through security-based solutions, but only through deep political reform that addresses the root causes of the crisis.

In this context, the Platform declared its full solidarity with the people of As-Suwayda, concluding: “We reaffirm our commitment at the Syrian Women’s National Dialogue Platform to the values of peace, justice, and reconciliation. We believe that Syria does not need those who achieve victory through arms, but rather those who plant the seeds of life.”
