Syrian politician urges Damascus to stop ongoing Turkish attacks

On March 10, the General Commander of the Syrian Democratic Forces and the head of the Damascus Authority signed an agreement consisting of eight provisions addressing key national issues, marking a fundamental step toward achieving stability in Syria.

 This agreement received both domestic and international support as an effort to enhance stability and halt the ongoing conflicts in Syria. However, the Turkish occupying state continues to perpetrate massacres against the Syrian people, the latest being the massacre in the southern countryside of Kobani.

 During an interview with ANHA Agency regarding Turkey’s continued crimes and massacres, Iyad Al-Khatib, the spokesperson for the Future Syria Party, emphasized the significance of the existing understandings between the Syrian Democratic Forces and the Damascus Authority.

“These understandings have resulted in agreements that pave the way for negotiations through specialized committees. These agreements outline organizational mechanisms to integrate the Syrian Democratic Forces into the state’s military structure, as well as incorporating the Autonomous Administration within the state’s governance framework under specific arrangements,” Al-Khatib said.

 Al-Khatib further noted that “Article Three of the agreement stresses the necessity of a ceasefire as a fundamental step toward ensuring regional stability.”

 He pointed out that, “Despite these agreements, the Turkish occupying state continues its systematic attacks on northern and eastern Syria. In recent days, we witnessed a brutal massacre in the countryside of Kobani, claiming the lives of nine people from a single family, most of whom were women and children.”

 Al-Khatib called for an immediate commitment to the ceasefire, reiterating the Future Syria Party’s demand for the Damascus Authority to fulfill its responsibilities in defending Syria’s sovereignty through political and diplomatic channels. He also urged the government to exert pressure on the mercenary groups involved in attacks on northern and eastern Syria.

 He further highlighted that, despite Turkey’s claims, its continued assaults demonstrate its persistent expansionist ambitions at the expense of the Syrian people and the country’s territorial integrity.

 Concluding his statement, Al-Khatib reaffirmed the urgent need to halt hostilities across Syria and to activate intra-Syrian dialogue. He also stressed the importance of regional actors, particularly Turkey, adhering to the agreements and understandings between the Syrian Democratic Forces and the Damascus Authority. Furthermore, he called for providing all parties with the opportunity to resolve outstanding issues and reach a consensus for a new Syria.
