Syrian politician holds Transitional Govt. responsible for recent events in Homs

Walid Hamad Qarqamas, the member of the leadership council of the "Youth of Independence Party," stated that the events witnessed in Homs in recent day; killing, looting, and arson are a direct result of the approach of the Transitional Government in Syria, which is based on managing chaos and creating internal conflicts to pave the way for demographic changes."

In an interview with ANHA agency, Qarqamas explained that what is happening "is not new," noting that similar patterns had previously appeared in the coastal region, Sweida, Sahnaya, and Jaramana, where "the tools were the same and the goal was the same; to dismantle the social fabric and fragment society."

The member of the "Youth of Independence Party" condemned what happened in Homs, considering it "a crime added to the record of violations against Syrians," emphasizing that what is happening "proves the need for new solutions to end this destructive approach."

Qarqamas pointed out that the continuation of policies based on "repression, inciting strife, and discrimination between regions and sects" is pushing Syria towards "further disintegration and a widening of the internal conflict," warning that "the state is transforming from a unifying center into an instigator."

He emphasized that reproducing centralism "will not provide a solution," noting that viable alternatives begin with establishing autonomous-administration regions similar to the existing model in the North and Eastern Syria Region, which "has proven its ability to achieve stability, provide services, and ensure local representation."

Qarqamas considered that the ongoing crisis in Sweida and its siege by the Transitional Government make "independence the most suitable option for the people of Sweida," stating that experience has demonstrated "the impossibility of co-existence with those who violate dignity and use the state as a tool of oppression." He added, "Security can only be guaranteed through an independent administration that represents the people of Jabal al-Druze region and protects them from any targeting or discrimination."
