According to the Observatory, several parts of Latakia have been under heightened security since Friday morning. A security checkpoint was set up at the entrance of the southern Ramel area near the bridge, where thorough ID checks are being conducted. A temporary two-hour ban on vehicle entry into the area was also imposed.

In a related development, security forces affiliated with the Damascus regime imposed a full lockdown on the neighborhoods of Al-Hamimi, Sakantouri, and Ain al-Tanoura, with complete restrictions on entry and exit until further notice.

This security escalation comes after gunfire was heard after midnight Thursday, although no information has been released so far regarding the cause.

At least 2,161 people have been killed in the coastal cities and the countryside of Homs and Hama since the fall of the Ba'ath regime on December 8, 2024. These deaths resulted from massacres, executions, and acts of revenge amid growing chaos and insecurity in areas controlled by the Damascus authority.
