Israeli Channel 12 reported today that forces affiliated with the Syrian interim government have over the past two days started dismantling mines previously planted along the Syrian-Lebanese border, in the Wadi Khaled area and eastern Bekaa.

The channel said that “this step comes amid the possibility of Syrian units entering Lebanon, including foreign fighters within the Syrian army, with the aim of distracting Hezbollah and creating a secondary front along the border.”

It added that Hezbollah has begun strengthening its positions in eastern Bekaa in anticipation of any potential movement, amid rising tensions following exchanges of fire between the two sides along the border.
