Syrian consultative meeting in Europe on Baath regime’s fall anniversary 

A consultative meeting is scheduled to be held tomorrow in Europe under the title “The National Consultative Meeting,” bringing together Syrian political and social actors representing diverse communities.

According to available information, the meeting will take place in Belgium with the participation of national figures, political groups, and civil society actors from inside and outside Syria and from across the country’s different components.

The meeting aims to conduct a broad discussion on the year that has passed since the collapse of the Baathist system and the ascension of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, as well as the political, administrative, and social landscape that has taken shape during this period.

Participants are expected to carry out a comprehensive critical review of the past year, examining emerging structural challenges related to the new governing model, state-building processes, citizens’ rights, and the extent to which democratic principles have been upheld. The discussions will also assess whether current institutions are capable of meeting Syrians’ aspirations for freedom, justice, and stability.

The attendees aim to explore future prospects and identify potential pathways to strengthen national cooperation and develop a unified political vision rooted in citizenship, pluralism, decentralization, and the rejection of all forms of authoritarianism and extremism. The ultimate goal is to pave the way toward a modern democratic state founded on the free will of Syrians.

The timing of the meeting, coinciding with the first anniversary of the Baath regime’s fall on 8 December, adds symbolic weight, underscoring the need to evaluate the past year’s trajectory and chart new horizons for national action amid the transformations witnessed in Syria over the past twelve months.
