Sweida’s protests demand release of abductees, self-determination

Protests have erupted again among the residents of Sweida and its surrounding countryside, demanding the release of abductees, the liberation of deserted villages, and the guarantee of the right to self-determination, while also commemorating the victims of military escalation after more than 100 days.

Today, the city of al-Shahba and al-Karama Square in Sweida witnessed new protests attended by local residents.

Participants held up photos of their missing children and chanted slogans such as "We want the abductees," calling for the release of those held by the transitional government forces and the assurance of the right to self-determination.

Protesters also demanded the liberation of villages and towns in the northern and western countryside from the transitional government forces, urging the government to allow them to return to their forcibly deserted villages, to protect minorities across all Syrian territories, and to work toward building a democratic state.

At the same time, the protesters commemorated the victims of the military escalation that struck Sweida and its countryside earlier this year, after more than 100 days had passed.
