Sweida massacre death toll rises to 1,653, including 429 Field Executions

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights has documented the killing of 1,653 people, including children, women, and medical staff, with 429 executed in the field by members of the Ministries of Defense and Interior affiliated with the Syrian Interim Government.

The Observatory revealed the grim toll of the Sweida massacre, which erupted on July 13 and continued until the ceasefire took effect on July 20. The documented casualties include 429 field executions carried out by elements of the Defense and Interior Ministries.

Among those executed were 38 women, 14 children and elderly individuals, and 20 members of the medical staff at Sweida National Hospital, who were shot dead. In addition, 20 other health workers from the Sweida Health Directorate were killed during an armed attack on the hospital on July 16, targeting doctors, engineers, nurses, technicians, sanitation and maintenance workers, vehicle drivers, and facility guards.

These massacres occurred amid a severe security deterioration in Sweida, where large areas are witnessing armed attacks against civilians and vital infrastructure, exacerbating the suffering of residents and threatening the collapse of the health sector.
