Sweida: Ceasefire violations and calls to clean up city after widespread destruction

The city of Shahba, north of Sweida, witnessed a violent night last night due to continued ceasefire violations by armed groups affiliated with the transitional government, known as the "Army of Tribes," despite the announcement by the Ministries of Defense and Interior that the Damascus-Sweida road had been closed.

Circulared video footage showed these armed groups continuing their advance toward the city.

According to local sources, the militants, who attempted to advance through the town of Umm al-Zeitoun, suffered heavy losses before reaching the front lines and were unable to cross the town. They were subjected to shelling by Israeli drones. The city's villages have witnessed intermittent clashes since this morning.

On the ground, approximately 30 villages in the Sweida countryside remain empty of their residents following widespread displacement, accompanied by looting, arson, and killings carried out by the attacking militants. Reports indicate that these villages remain unsafe and uninhabitable to this day.

In the service sector, activists in Sweida have called on residents to return to the city to participate in cleaning and rehabilitating its streets after the widespread fires and looting that have affected most shops since the first attack. This comes amid a lack of official coverage of these violations.

Dozens of Bedouin families left Sweida yesterday after days of displacement due to the military escalation that began on July 13. Other families remain inside Sweida, some in the southern countryside and others in shelters in the city of Shahba.
