The Suwayda National Guard Command announced on Sunday that it had thwarted an attempt to smuggle a shipment of Captagon pills toward the Jordanian border using hot-air balloons launched from the eastern countryside of Daraa.

In a statement, the command said that a National Guard unit operating in the southern sector detected and brought down the balloons at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 18, 2026, in agricultural land near the town of Dhibin in Suwayda Governorate, before they could reach the border.

According to the statement, the seized shipment contained 11,200 Captagon pills and a GPS tracking device. Engineering teams dismantled the tracking device, while the relevant authorities confiscated the narcotics and initiated the necessary legal procedures.
