Strike begins in E. Kurdistan

Stores and markets closed in cities in E. Kurdistan, marking the start of a general strike commemorating the second anniversary of the Jin, Jiyan, Azadî uprising.

The general strike in E. Kurdistan was initiated in response to a call from civil society organizations, the Kurdistan Free Life Party, and The Eastern Kurdistan Free Women's Association (KJAR).

As the second anniversary of the Jin, Jiyan, Azadî uprising approaches, which began on September 16, 2022, following the killing of the young woman Jina Amini, a general strike has commenced in E. Kurdistan.

According to reports, the strike started with the closure of shops and markets in E. Kurdistan.

The "Hengaw" organization for human rights reported that protests erupted under the slogan "Jin, Jiyan, Azadî" after the killing of Jina Amini resulted in the deaths of 142 Kurdish citizens, including 6 women and 136 men, as well as 16 children.
