On Saturday, the Spiritual Leadership of the Druze community in Sweida announced the formation of legal and humanitarian committees aimed at structuring rights-based and relief efforts in the governorate and preserving citizens’ rights amid ongoing field and humanitarian developments in the area.

In a statement, the Spiritual Leadership, headed by Sheikh Hikmat al-Hijri, said this step comes as part of the "unbreakable will" of Sweida’s people, aimed at restoring what has been damaged and safeguarding the future of the region's residents.

The statement explained that the newly formed committees include a high legal committee in addition to specialized subcommittees, such as a fact-finding and damage assessment committee, a legal claims committee, a committee for distributing aid and financial assistance, as well as medical, religious, and service committees.

The Spiritual Leadership emphasized that the judges and lawyers assigned to these roles possess the necessary competence and experience to document events legally, ensuring the protection of rights and preventing chaos or manipulation of demands and efforts.

This development comes as Sweida experiences a worsening humanitarian and living crisis since clashes broke out on July 13. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights has documented the deaths of around 1,400 people and hundreds of injuries, including women and children.
