Solidarity vigil in Sweida condemning Mar Elias Church bombing

The Peaceful Movement Committee in Sweida Governorate organized a solidarity vigil today in Karama Square, attended by dozens of activists and members of the local community, expressing their grief and condemnation of the terrorist bombing that targeted Mar Elias Church in al-Douweila neighborhood of Damascus, which resulted in the deaths of a number of innocent civilians.

Participants held up banners affirming the unity of Syrians in the face of terrorism, demanding an end to the targeting of minorities, and denouncing the rhetoric of takfir and hatred behind these attacks. Slogans included: "The Syrian people have the right to live in peace" and "Enough killing and terrorism."

Dr. Lujain Hamza, from the Media Committee of the Peaceful Movement, emphasized that "the bombing is part of a takfiri plot aimed at fragmenting the Syrian fabric and harming minorities." She continued, "We strongly condemn this cowardly act and demand immediate intervention to stop the terrorist escalation that threatens the survival of Syrians."

Lawyer Mufid Abu Ammar, head of the General Committee of the Peaceful Movement, held the authorities responsible for protecting civilians, emphasizing the need to stop the massacres against citizens, especially minorities.

Lawyer Lina Abu Hamdan emphasized the Syrians' unified stance against terrorism, considering the protest a clear message rejecting these crimes and calling for unity.

Activist Muhib Jamoul expressed his confidence in the elimination of terrorism, emphasizing that Syrians, regardless of their affiliations, are brothers in destiny and are facing attempts to sow discord and division: "Truth cannot be defeated."

This protest is part of a series of civil initiatives in Sweida raising their voices against violence and extremism, affirming that Syria's future is based on citizenship, justice, and peace.
