Security forces kill 2 young men in Damascus countryside

In two separate incidents within the past 24 hours, two young men were killed by security forces affiliated with the transitional government in Damascus and its countryside

In the village of Al-Rawda in the Zabadani area, a young man who had defected from the former regime in 2012 was killed during a security raid on his home after midnight on Wednesday-Thursday.

In a similar incident, another young man from the village of Maaraba in the Daraa countryside was shot dead by security forces in the Rukn al-Din neighborhood of Damascus on Wednesday. No details about the circumstances or motives behind the shooting have been disclosed.

According to statistics from the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, the number of victims of extrajudicial killings and retaliatory actions in Syria since the beginning of 2025 has risen to 884, including 838 men, 30 women, and 16 children.

These cases are distributed across several provinces, with Homs (295 cases), Hama (180), and Latakia (90) being the most affected. Sectarian affiliations have been a primary motive in many of these crimes, particularly in areas previously under regime control.
