The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights revealed today a "security alert" on the Syrian coast, amid fears of armed attacks. It noted that security forces have focused their deployment on vital roads linking the governorates of Hama, Latakia, and Tartous, with increased inspections and monitoring procedures.

Residents expressed their fear that these developments could return the region to the atmosphere of security chaos it had witnessed in previous periods, which could entail the risk of massacres and civilian casualties.

The Observatory added that there was a significant security deployment in the city of Tartous, coinciding with the entry of a General Security convoy into the city center. Local sources reported that some members chanted sectarian slogans, sparking anxiety and tension among residents.

In addition, a number of checkpoints have been reactivated, most notably the Duwayr al-Sheikh Saad junction checkpoint, with increased inspections of pedestrians and vehicles at the entrances and exits of coastal cities.

These heightened security measures come under the pretext of "confronting potential threats," coinciding with the visit of the head of the transitional government in Syria, Ahmed al-Sharaa, to the United States. This has increased speculation about the connection between these developments and the current political and security landscape.
