In the western countryside of Daraa, a vehicle belonging to the General Security Service was targeted near the village of Jilin by unidentified gunmen. The attack resulted in the injury of a General Security officer affiliated with the Damascus authorities. He was transported to a hospital for treatment, amid a heavy security alert and the deployment of patrols to pursue the perpetrators.
Local sources stated that the main road to Jilin was cut off and that the clashes—during which light and medium weapons are being used—are still ongoing.
Yesterday, four members of the General Security Service were killed and wounded in an armed attack targeting a security checkpoint in the city of Talkalakh in the western countryside of Homs. The incident raised concerns about the potential spread of clashes in the area and the possibility of violations or massacres, especially as the General Security Service dispatched reinforcements to contain the escalation.
According to sources from the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, the attack was driven by longstanding disputes between the gunmen and the General Security administration in Talkalakh. The attackers used light and medium weapons during the operation.
In a related development, gunmen attacked the Ain al-Khadra neighborhood, one of the largest neighborhoods in Talkalakh, and set several homes on fire.
