Following attacks by Turkish-backed mercenaries of the Syrian interim government on Tabqa and Raqqa, the SDF pulled their forces that had been protecting Al-Aqatan Prison, which holds ISIS mercenaries.

Since January 18, the interim government’s mercenaries had been attacking the prison using heavy weapons and drones. SDF fighters resisted these attacks and prevented the detained ISIS members from escaping. Despite the tight siege and the cutting of water and electricity, the fighters continued to secure the area.

Last night, the SDF withdrew their forces from Al-Aqatan Prison, with the troops arriving in the city of Kobani.

An official statement from the SDF on the matter is expected.
