SDF repels Damascus-backed attack in Deir ez-Zor

Fighters of the Kasra Military Council repelled an attack by armed groups affiliated with the Damascus government on a military outpost, inflicting confirmed casualties among the assailants.

In a statement released on Sunday, the Media Center of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) reported that, “In a desperate attempt to spread chaos and destabilize security in the region—coinciding with intensified attacks by ISIS terrorists—armed groups affiliated with the Damascus government targeted an SDF military point in the town of Al-Jenina in western Deir ez-Zor countryside, using BKC machine guns and a drone.”

The statement affirmed that SDF fighters “courageously confronted the attack and forcefully responded to the sources of fire, resulting in confirmed injuries among the attackers.” It also noted that five SDF fighters sustained varying degrees of injuries.

The SDF stressed that such “treacherous aggressions will not deter us from fulfilling our duty. We hold the Damascus government directly responsible for the actions of these groups and call on it to restrain its elements and immediately halt their assaults.”
