SDF foils terrorist attack in Eastern Deir ez-Zor

The Media Center of the Syrian Democratic Forces issued a statement revealing the foiling of a terrorist attack in the eastern Deir ez-Zor countryside, which coincided with artillery shelling targeting the center of Deir Hafir city.

The statement said: “Our forces thwarted, this evening, a terrorist attack carried out by a cell affiliated with the terrorist organization ISIS, which targeted one of our military points in the town of Al-Marashidah in the eastern Deir ez-Zor countryside, while our forces were performing their routine duties to secure the area and protect civilians.

The terrorist cell used an RPG launcher in addition to automatic weapons during the attack. However, our forces were able to respond quickly and decisively to the source of fire and foil the attack without any material damage or injuries among our ranks.

Immediately afterward, our forces launched a wide security sweep in the surrounding area to reinforce security and prevent any infiltration attempts or subsequent attacks.

Simultaneously with this terrorist attack, the ‘Al-Amshat’ faction affiliated with the Damascus government targeted the center of Deir Hafir with artillery and mortar shells this evening, in a military escalation that struck a populated area, without recording any human or material losses.

Our forces affirm that the timing of these two attacks reflects parallel attempts to destabilize security and stability in the region, and stress that they will continue to pursue terrorist cells, take all necessary measures to protect civilians, and firmly confront any threat to the security and stability of the area.”
