SDF: factions using tanks, artillery against Sheikh Maqsoud-Ashrafieh

The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) denied all reports alleging that their forces shelled neighborhoods in Aleppo from positions handed over to the Internal Security Forces (Asayish) under the April 1 agreement, and stated that it is the Syrian Interim Government factions that are using tanks and artillery against Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh.

The SDF Media Center issued a statement today, firmly rejecting all claims made by the Syrian Interim Government’s military apparatus alleging that SDF forces targeted Aleppo neighborhoods from positions they had transferred to the Internal Security Forces (Asayish) under the April 1 agreement.

The statement said:

"The responsibility for investigating these incidents lies with the divided factions under the Damascus government, which have been creating crises for the past four months by besieging Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh and repeatedly provoking and attacking civilians under the watch of government authorities, despite the April 1 agreement."

"Today’s shelling of residential neighborhoods is the result of the actions of these factions, especially in western and northern Aleppo, where rockets are fired along clear military trajectories from their positions toward the city’s neighborhoods, aiming to destabilize security and incite strife."

"These factions have gone so far as to bring tanks and artillery to shell Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh in a dangerous escalation that threatens civilian lives and regional stability."
