The Syrian Democratic Forces clashed with remnants of the former Syrian regime who attacked military and security points in the town of Dhiban in the eastern countryside of Deir-ez-Zor. Following the clashes in that town, virtual communication platforms addressed this issue as the control of these mercenaries over the town of Dhiban.

The town of Dhiban is one of the most active villages and towns in the eastern Deir-ez-Zor canton for the movement of cells of the remnants of the former regime and mercenaries of the so-called National Defense, as it has witnessed continuous attacks during the past two years targeting the people of the region and the points of the Deir-ez-Zor Military Council and the Syrian Democratic Forces with the aim of destroying the region and distorting the project of the unity of the peoples. These attacks have always failed due to the solidarity of the people and their continuous support for the Syrian Democratic Forces.

These mercenaries were working within the National Defense mercenary factions affiliated with the former regime forces in al-Mayadeen and al-Ashara area west of the Euphrates.

These remaining groups of the remnants of the regime tried to carry out sabotage operations in the area under different names, according to sources of ANHA's agency in Deir-ez-Zor canton, and to spread fabricated information on virtual communication platforms with the aim of creating chaos. However, these attempts failed, and then their cells in the area carried out attacks against the points and checkpoints of the Syrian Democratic Forces on January 18, and these attacks continued for two days.

The child Ahmed al-Shalash, 9 years old, from the town of Dhiban was martyred as a result of stray bullets fired by the remnants of the former regime while trying to create chaos in the town.

The Syrian Democratic Forces subsequently announced a two-day total curfew to maintain security and stability in the area, and worked to comb the neighborhoods of the town and the bed of the Euphrates River.

In turn, the Syrian Democratic Forces carried out an operation to regain control of the town and its affiliated villages and establish security and stability, and during this operation, the Syrian Democratic Forces were able to capture 33 elements of the remnants of the former regime along with their weapons.

On January 25, the Syrian Democratic Forces announced the extension of the final deadline given to the remnants of the former regime and the remnants of the National Defense to hand over their weapons from the date of the decision until February 10.

The Syrian Democratic Forces and the Internal Security Forces continue to pursue the cells of the remnants of the former regime that are trying to destabilize the security and stability of the region in all towns and cities of Deir –ez-Zor canton with the help of the people of the canton.
