The eastern Deir ez-Zor countryside witnessed swift security operations last night and into the early hours of this morning, targeting several villages and neighborhoods, focusing on the city of Al-Gharanij and its surrounding villages. According to eyewitnesses, these operations included raids and searches for wanted individuals and weapons.

The participating military and security forces returned to their military points, according to the same sources, while the security deployment in the city was limited to known security checkpoints.

At the same time, the Syrian Democratic Forces published a statement on its official website confirming that the Deir ez-Zor Military Council forces had managed to free four of its fighters after they had been kidnapped by a cell suspected of links to ISIS mercenaries. They were kidnapped last Wednesday.

The statement confirmed that the forces, in response to the attack, carried out security operations to recover their kidnapped fighters, adding that the operation would continue until "the complete elimination of all members of the cell."

In a previous statement, the Syrian Democratic Forces said: "On Wednesday evening (August 14), four fighters from the Deir ez-Zor Military Council, who were on a non-combat mission to receive medical treatment at a pharmacy in the town of Al-Hawayej, east of Deir ez-Zor, were subjected to a terrorist attack carried out by a group likely affiliated with the terrorist organization ISIS."

It added: "Our forces carried out a precise operation in response to the attack, resulting in the death of one member of the attacking group and the injury of three others," noting that the operation is still ongoing according to the established plan.
