The Delegation of the Syrian Democratic Council in London, represented by Dr. Mohammed Mustafa, participated today in the British Trade Unions Congress (TUC Congress 2025), held in Brighton. Dr. Mustafa delivered a speech addressing the future of Syria and prospects for a political solution.

Mustafa affirmed that the country’s future must be based on democracy, equality, and peaceful coexistence among its various components. He called for the formulation of a new social contract that guarantees rights and enhances the role of women in public life.

He also highlighted the prominent role played by the societal forces in North and East Syria in combating ISIS, noting that this experience contributed to protecting the region and humanity as a whole.

The council representative emphasized the importance of adopting a cooperative economic model that takes environmental considerations into account and helps achieve self-sufficiency.

He concluded his speech by stressing that peace in Syria can only be achieved through a democratic political solution that ensures diversity, dignity, and justice for all Syrians.

During the conference, the humanitarian dimension of the Syrian crisis was also addressed. Simon Deppin, Director of International Affairs at the British trade union "UNITE," underscored that the resistance of Kobani in 2014 marked a turning point in the fight against terrorism.

He explained that the Syrian people continue to suffer from displacement, destruction, and an economic crisis, which necessitates intensified humanitarian aid and efforts toward a just political solution to end the ongoing tragedy that has lasted for more than a decade.
