Saleh Kedo: The ball is now in Turkey’s Court

On February 27, Leader Abdullah Ocalan issued a peace call, urging the PKK to convene its congress and dissolve itself. The party responded by holding its 12th Congress from May 5 to 7, during which it announced its self-dissolution. Following that, a group of 30 PKK fighters symbolically burned their weapons during a special ceremony held on July 11.

The PKK took another historic step on October 26, announcing the withdrawal of its forces from Turkey a decision that drew significant regional and international attention.

Speaking to ANHA agency about this development, Saleh Kedo shared his views.

“We Must Support This Step”

Kedo stressed the importance of Ocalan’s call and the measures taken by the PKK, saying: “I believe this call will influence other occupying states as well. Its impact will be positive for the entire region, especially in North and East Syria. We must all support this initiative.”

“We Have Set Out on the Path to Resolving the Kurdish Question”

Expressing optimism about the process, Kedo stated: “We must realize that the future holds major developments. The Turkish state has denied the existence, rights, and language of the Kurdish people for a century. Now, there is a new reality in Turkey and Northern Kurdistan. We have entered a path where the Kurdish question and Kurdish rights will eventually be enshrined in the Turkish constitution, and the Kurdish language will become an official language. Turkey will become a democratic state that resolves its issues through democratic means.”

“Leader Abdullah Ocalan Must Be Freed”

Kedo reiterated the key steps required from the Turkish government to resolve the Kurdish question and democratize Turkey, adding: “The ball is now in the Turkish state’s court. We can see that the Turkish authorities are also discussing the matter and will respond. Some steps will be taken in the coming days, and we hope that one of them will be the freedom of Leader Abdullah Ocalan. Once he is released, he will be able to play a greater role in solving the issue. The Turkish public also wants this matter resolved now.”

“This Step Has Paved the Way for the Kurdish People”

Kedo concluded his remarks with a warning and a message of hope:

“This step has paved the way for the Kurdish people. If the Turkish state fails to move forward with this process, it will face great danger, and the consequences will be disastrous for Turkey. Global public opinion supports this initiative, and if the Turkish state does not respond, the international community will stand against it.
