Saleh Kado: leader's call is a great victory for Kurdish people; must be supported

On February 27, leader Abdullah Ocalan made a historic call for peace, after which the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) announced a ceasefire and its support for the peace process.

The Secretary-General of the Kurdish Democratic Left Party in Syria, Saleh Kado, described leader Abdullah Ocalan as a bold and leading figure for issuing this call at a historical and sensitive stage, and confirmed that the ball is now in the Turkish state's court, which must take serious steps towards peace.

Saleh Kado considered the call of leader Abdullah Ocalan a great victory for the Kurdish people in the four parts of Kurdistan (North, South, East, West).

He added that the message conveyed by the call was short but deeply meaningful, focusing on two main points: the first, ensuring the rights of the Kurdish people; and the second, strengthening democracy in Turkey.

Kado pointed out that the call will have a wide impact on the Middle East region, and he expected it to lead to radical changes in the political situation compared to what it was like a year and a half ago.

He also pointed out that international support for the appeal was significant, as the United States, the European Union, and other countries announced their support for it.

He confirmed that this initiative represents a victory for the Kurdish people and should be supported by everyone, and that leader Abdullah Ocalan is no stranger to peace initiatives, as he had launched a similar initiative 30 years ago during Turgut Özal's tenure as Prime Minister of Turkey, which ended with Özal's assassination by extremist elements.

He pointed out that the Kurdistan Workers' Party's support for the ceasefire thwarted the expectations of some who were betting on a different stance from the party, placing the Turkish state in a position that requires it to make quick and decisive decisions.

Kado emphasized the necessity for the Turkish state to officially open a dialogue and to make constitutional amendments that recognize the legitimate rights of the Kurdish people, including acknowledging the existence of 25 million Kurds in Northern Kurdistan. The international community must closely monitor these developments, and international pressure will be exerted to ensure the implementation of these decisions.

Saleh Kado confirmed that Ocalan's call carries great importance in this sensitive historical phase and will have a significant impact on political developments in the Middle East. He expressed hope that this initiative would mark the beginning of a new era of peace and stability in the region.
